Letter from Doug Weisbruch, Keysis Director

 

Staying HOT This Summer

 Recently I was sipping a cup of Starbucks coffee, a tall Pike with whole milk, when I looked at the cup to observe the following warning, “Careful, the beverage you are about to enjoy is extremely hot!”  “Duh!” I thought, “It’s coffee. What loser would need that note?” 

 My self-amusement was interrupted as I realized that note was written for me, not because I am in the habit of chugging hot coffee, but because I am a cup.  God has filled me with life and blessings and deliciousness and I need to keep the beverage of my life extremely hot. Will my life be a source of comfort and pleasure to the Divine Drinker?  Will yours?

 Disciples of Jesus, we need to stay HOT for the Lord.    Many of us have had a great year in Keysis, and the Lord has been so faithful to light us on fire for Him.  We have a passionate love alive within us that we must tend.  It’s like a campfire. 

Tending the Flame

The key elements to keeping a campfire going are fuel (wood), air, and attention.  The fire has already been lit, so no matches are necessary. Likewise, God has filled your heart with His presence, now we just need the fuel, the air, and the attention. 

FUEL = EUCHARIST  Jesus gave us His body and blood to nourish us in every way.  We must be eaters of His Body and drinkers of His Blood or, as He warns in John 6, “you will have no life in you”.  This summer, don’t just make it to Mass once a week.  That’s barely minimal.  To have the abundant life He offers, try to receive Communion more often.

AIR = PRAYER  God breathed over the waters at the start of creation; He breathed life into Adam; Jesus is the Word of God and the Spirit is the breath of God.  Put yourself in front of the fan of God’s presence and allow Him to breath on you in prayer.  Take time to THANK God for all the good He has done for you.  Then REPENT of the sin in your life.  Then TAKE 5 in the Bible - read five minutes of the Gospels, Psalms or Acts of the Apostles. Then ASK for your needs and for others.   TRBA - Thanks, Repent, Bible, Ask

ATTENTION=ATTENTION  Stay awake and stay faithful.  Avoid the rain, hoses, and squirt guns that will  quench the flame, but if you fall, get up and run back to God.  He will always be there for you.  Keep trying, and keep coming to Keysis.
